MLK Library

In the Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School Innovation Center, children engage in lessons that build their library skills, enhance their knowledge through research, develop Digital Citizenship, create through Makerspace, and develop their Engineer Design skills through STEM. Students have access to diverse literature through books, digital ebooks such as MyOwn and Sora that build their knowledge base and reading interest. Students engage in guest readers, literature based learning, and read alouds with the Library Media Specialist, Ms. Moore.

We are excited about the continuous development of a literature rich environment to create exceptional learning experiences and reading engagement for students.

Meet the Librarian

Ms. Shannon Moore has been the Library Media Specialist for 7 years. Before becoming a Library Media Specialist, Ms. Moore was a Kindergarten teacher. She is a graduate of Alabama State University and the University of West Alabama. Ms. Moore is a member of the Alabama School Library Association. She enjoys attending library professional development to develop her knowledge to continuously better serve the students of Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School.

Library Services, Policies & Schedule

Kindergarten students check out one book at a time and must keep books at school in their classroom.
First and second grade students check out one book at a time and can take the book home at the teacher's discretion.
Third grade students check out two books at a time and can take the book home.
Books are checked out for one week at a time.
Fourth and fifth grade students check out two books at a time and can take the book home.
Books are checked out for one week at a time.
No late fees are assessed. However, students must return books to get new books. Replacement and damage charges are enforced when necessary. All items should be returned to the circulation desk.
