Beyond the Numbers

• We are our sixth full year in our brand new facility. We look forward to seeing continued growth and excitement within our building.
   
• We are the proud recipients of a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant, which will allow our students to attend extended day and summer intervention and enrichment activities for our students.
   
• Our Reading Allies Partnership with the Tuscaloosa Rotary is in its third year. We serve kindergarten, first grade and second grade students in alignment with our district’s RB3 initiative and our own school reading goals. The Rotary recently contributed $25,000 in support of foundational reading at MLK.
   
• Our Adopt-A-School Partners at BF Goodrich have made a $3000 donation of STEM kits to start a PreK through 5th grade STEM library at MLK.

• Our school is one of the few schools in Alabama to have a Book Vending Machine that rewards students for their increase in academics. 

We are working with our parents and partners to:

• Increase our student attendance from 96 % to at least 98% by the end of the school year.
  
  
• Increase reading growth and proficiency across all grade levels. 
  
  
• Use STEM and Project-Based Learning as a cornerstone for math and science instruction.
